A first shot for this FISE World Le Grau du Roi event in the south of France (near Montpellier). This new wakesurfing event in France is a qualifyier for the World Wakesurf Championships to be held in late September in the USA.
It was once again the opportunity to meet many of the riders seen on the other competitions and meet new ones. The spot is quite good, a saltwater channel bordered by rocks.
The boat of the competition was a Super Air Nautique G23 equipped with the Nautique Surf System, so no need to tell you that the wake was good. On Friday we can all test the wake for a little training session which is not bad. Saturday morning serious things started with the riders briefing at 9am followed by the qualifying runs for the Masters division.
These qualifications was the opportunity to finally see the pro rider who had traveled to south of France: The 2015 World champion “surf style” Keenan Flegel, his “little” brother 2015 world champion “skim style ” Noah Flegel, the 2015 women world champion” surf style ” Ashley Kidd and finally Dominic Lagacé former vice world champion and certainly one of the most friendly and cool rider on the circuit.
On Sunday the finals starts at 9am with masters division and were held to about 4pm. No surprise in the pro divisions surf style: Keenan 1st, 2nd Noah, Artem 3rd, in skim division, Noah 1st, Keenan 2nd and Dominic 3rd position. Ashley won the pro womens surf.
A lot of Black Revolt wakesurf boards on the podium for this first event of the season, Iris Vola 1st amateur skim women, Augustin Dorgal 2nd amateur skim men, in skim outlaw men and surf outlaw men divisions, no surprises with Sebastian Balland 1st in both categories, Jennifer Edwards on the top step of the podium in outlaw skim women and Stephanie Ravoire 3rd, good job girls for this double podium and congrats to team riders riders and friends for this result.
A first edition so successful despite the weather not easy, with a solid and friendly organization. See you next year for the second edition which will surely be even better.
